Ron Heacock, MFA in creative writing (2012), MA in Sustainability and social innovation (2017), spent years as a performing songwriter and has shared the stage with such notable artists as Alan Ginsberg and Pete Seeger. His work has been published in Connotation, PaperTape, The LIMN Literary & Arts Journal, Cease Cows, The Elohi Gadugi Journal, Far Enough East, and The Pitkin Review. His short story collection, Hey, This is it, I’m Going to Die, was published by Libros Igni November 2014. He lives in Portland, OR.
Karen Walasek, a retired midwife, ran Hillhouse Writers, a retreat to pamper writers with her lifelong partner musician-writer, Ron Heacock, on their biodynamic farm in Tennessee for seven years. She received her MFA (2012) & BA (1995) in creative writing from Goddard College where she also studied the psychology of creative relationships. Her multidisciplinary M.Ed. at Portland State University (2015) explored the intersections between rhetoric, conflict resolution, indigenous nations and women studies. At Prescott College her Ph.D work (2019) explores how indigenous research methods can be applied to the decolonization of motherhood. Passionate about other ways of knowing; she homeschooled three now adult children.
